Gouge & More

This is a collection of miscellaneous resources I have made for the community. Many of them get better with group contribution and I am only one person. So please both use and contribute!

  • Data Center Gouge – This is a link to a Google Doc with a lot of stuff! I spent a lot of time to pull together information on certifications, study resources, an interview question database and more. So far it’s mostly been my contribution, but I’m only one person and my hope is that this can grow as a living document of community knowledge.
  • Crowdsourced Salaries – This link is to the compiled salaries your fellow Data Center Nukes have submitted.
    • This link is how you can anonymously submit your salary and other compensation details to help out your fellow nukes.
  • Resume Submission – This is a newer project where I hope to collect and disseminate anonymous resumes to share with the group. Again, you can submit anonymously by submitting a resume with your name and/or other identifying details removed, or you can just submit your regular resume and I’ll do the work to anonymize it. You have my word your name will never be attached to the resume in any way unless you want it to be.
  • RSUs Explained – Restricted Stock Units (RSUs) will probably make up a very significant portion of your compensation if your work for Meta, Amazon, Google, Microsoft, or any of the other big “tech” data center operators. The short answer is that you can treat RSUs almost like a cash bonus as long as you stay with the company for at least a year, but there are some wrinkles and so I wrote up a good guide for understanding this portion of your compensation offer.
  • Data center map“I want to move to ______. Does anybody know if there are any data centers in ______?” This is probably the single most common question in the Data Center Nukes Facebook page. This great website lists 2,600+ data centers in the United States. Some are pretty small, but they are all easy to look up and find a careers page. From there I’d recommend checking out LinkedIn and seeing who has served in the Navy and works at that company/location. Chances are they are a Nuke! You can also make a more targeted request on the FB page from there 🙂
